My role with the Duke baseball team allows me to gain invaluable experience across disciplines in a highly structured and competitive environment. My several previous roles across the baseball industry have laid the foundation in which my position with Duke is built. Each provided a unique perspective of the game and is instrumental in improving the understanding of how different people in various roles can communicate and work together to achieve the ultimate goal — winning. Now with Duke, I am spread among the four different manager groups — R&D, Scouting, On-field & player development, and baseball operations. The goal of this experience was to gain exposure across disciplines to learn about different roles and how they interact at higher levels. My work mainly has consisted of writing reports from batting practice and bullpens and developing a dashboard (in progress) for coaches and players to review performance and tailor development plans. I have also been involved in developing these plans; the tools I provide to the coaches allow them to understand the roster deeper. As my time with the program moves on, I have been in discussion about serving in a bullpen manager role for the spring season; this will complement my experience "behind the scenes" using statistical modeling techniques to continue developing a deeper understanding of the talent on the roster to optimize team performance.
