In the summer before my senior year, I had the unique opportunity to serve as the first-ever Director of Baseball Analytics for the NECBL and Keene SwampBats. In this role, I applied skills learned through a lifetime of baseball experience and prior coursework and internships to an organization with no existing systems or processes for leveraging data. The opportunity to design my own experience had its pros and cons; however, learning through trial and error and battling through adversity to accomplish my set goals was an unmatched experience. I used technical skills learned on my own to build and update a dashboard with all the Trackman data collected throughout the summer for players, coaches, and scouts to use to access all information from one source. The dashboard contains a variety of tables and other visualizations from over one hundred pitchers and hitters that played on fields with TrackMan radars. I used the dashboard I created and video from the Synergy scouting platform to provide daily advance scouting reports to the SwampBats, something no other team in the league had ever been privy to. Additionally, I provided leaders in various statistical categories, such as pitch velocity, spin rate, and exit velocity, to the league for use in social media and other marketing materials. Overall, the experience allowed me to showcase my self-motivation and desire to learn from experience while working in a team setting.
